Working together for success and happiness

Friday 22nd Jan

Reading

Today's task will get you to infer. Inference is where you use the clues from the text to work out your own ideas. It’s a bit like being a detective where you figure something out from clues and evidence. You are going to think about how Wilbur feels at three points in the text so far. Think what the text tells us happens or what Wilbur does. Explain what you think his emotions and feelings would be at each point. Remember to explain in as much detail as you can.

Time one: The beginning of the story where Wilbur is saved by Fern and Fern is able to spend lots of time caring for him. How does he feel?

Time two: Where Fern isn’t able to spend as much time with him as she’s at school and he doesn’t have anyone to play with. How does he feel?

Time three: Where Wilbur meets Charlotte and makes a new friend. How does he feel?

You can use the sheet or work from the screen and write on paper.

English

This week we are moving on to the next step in our writing sequence. This is the part where we write our own non-chronological report on Barn Owls!

To do this, you need to use all of the vocabulary, grammar skills and amazing facts you’ve developed over the last two weeks to help you!

Today we have got to the final part of our piece of writing.

TASK:

Today’s job is to write a series of extra facts using bullet points. You only need to add 3 or 4 of these. Make sure you make them really engaging and interesting!

Add this on to your piece of writing, underneath your paragraph from yesterday.

Then, add a drawing of a Barn Owl with labels.

Use the help sheet to help you include all of the grammar features and vocabulary in your piece of writing. Use the WAGOLL to help you too.

Writing a draft/rough version to edit and then writing your best version might be a good idea!

Your Barn Owl non-chronological report is now complete! WELL DONE!

If you want to crate a 'showpiece' version you can! Remember to send this to your teacher on Dojos to show them your AMAZING piece of writing!

Maths

For the next week or so we will be focusing on 'Area'.

This morning we would like you to look at: Making shapes

Watch the video first. You will need to keep pausing this to have a go at the tasks.

There are slides too (same as the video) if you need to look at this more slowly and carefully.

Then, complete the worksheet. Look at the questions on a screen and write your answers on paper. Remember, the later questions are normally problem solving and reasoning questions so give these your best shot. You may need a little bit of adult explanation for these.
