Welcome

I am absolutely thrilled as Headteacher to welcome you to Clowne Junior School’s new website, which offers a window into the vibrant life of our school community.

Since taking on the privilege of leading this fantastic school in 2019, I have been immensely proud of everything our pupils and staff achieve together. Clowne Junior is a warm, aspirational place where children love to learn and turn up with a smile each day. That dedication truly shows—our SATs results consistently sit above the national average, reflecting our hard work and commitment to academic achievement.

In our most recent Ofsted inspection, inspectors recognised that our pupils display positive attitudes to learning, feel safe and well cared for, and benefit from a broad curriculum where staff help them know more and remember more. They noted that our children are polite, welcoming, and show a genuine pride in their school community.

At the heart of everything we do are our C.L.O.W.N.E. core values:

  • Courage: We encourage pupils to take risks in their learning, step out of their comfort zones, and embrace new challenges with confidence.

  • Listening: We foster respect and empathy, teaching children to listen attentively to one another and value every voice in our community.

  • Ownership: We empower children to take responsibility for their choices, their progress, and their role in the world around them.

  • Wonder: We spark curiosity and a lifelong love of learning, encouraging children to explore, question, and marvel at the world around them.

  • Never-give-up: We cultivate resilience and a growth mindset, helping pupils persevere when faced with difficult tasks.

  • Excellence: We strive for high standards in both character and academic work, supporting every child to achieve their personal best.

We value strongly our role within the community, working together for the success and happiness of all our pupils. If you would like to come and see what Clowne Junior School can offer your child, please give us a call on 01246 810416 — a warm welcome is guaranteed!

All staff and visitors alike have a responsibility for safeguarding our pupils. To ensure this we ask the following:
  • Switch off your mobile phone/device and store it in your bag
  • In the event you do need to use your mobile phone or camera-enabled device, please do so in an area that is not accessed by the children, this includes corridors. Such places could be in one of the offices or in the staff room.
  • Do not take pictures, videos or sound recordings of any pupils unless you have sought permission from the school.
  • If you are working with a child, please ensure the class teacher is aware of this, where you are working and approximately how long for
  • If you are working with a child, please do so in a space that is open, or have an open door or visible by others through a window
  • If you have a concern about a child please pass this on to the child’s class teacher, who will then follow our safeguarding procedures. If they are not available, please speak with one of our Designated Safeguarding Officers – Mrs Newton-Wall, Mr Stewart, Mr Butler, Ms Foster, Mrs Snape, Mrs Allen, Miss Thompson and Mrs Cross.
  • If you have a concern about another adult in school, please ask to speak to a Designated Safeguarding Officer.
  • Always share concerns with school staff, no matter how small they may appear, and don’t keep them to yourself.
  • If a child says something to you that you think could be a safeguarding concern, act as above, and if possible write down what was said immediately. Listen to the child, do not question them or promise them that it will remain confidential between the two of you.
