Swimming
WHERE AND WHEN
In Year 5 pupils will go to the Go Active@ The Arc, High Street, Clowne for two terms.
Two classes go on a Monday afternoon. The first class session finishes at 2:30 pm and parents/guardians are asked to collect pupils from the reception at The Arc from 2:45pm. The second class completes their swimming session at 3:00 pm and their parents/guardians are asked to collect pupils at 3:15. If pupils are at an after-school club or are attending Mini Miners then staff will walk them back down to school.
Before swimming starts, parents/guardians need to complete a form from school. Medication, such as inhalers, will be taken up to the pool by Clowne Junior School Staff.
WHAT PUPILS NEED:
- a named towel
- a named swimsuit/ trunks (no two pieces or baggy 'Bermuda' shorts)
- a named swim bag
- goggles if parents have given permission
- bobble if they have long hair to tie their hair back/ swimming caps are fine too
Children are not allowed in these sessions to wear any jewellery including earrings or wear any false nails.
SESSIONS
At the first session, the children will be assessed and sorted into groups. They will then work through with a teacher/swimming instructor on the WAVE AWARDS from Derbyshire Count Council. Each award is comprised of 5-8 skills that must be performed consistently and competently before achieving the award. Over the two terms, pupils groups might change as they progress.
