What is Cyberbullying?

Cyberbullying is when someone is mean to you online. This can happen on a computer, a tablet, or a phone. It can be through messages, pictures, or when playing games.

Being a good friend online means being kind and respectful to everyone.

What to Do if Someone is Mean to You Online

It's not your fault if someone is mean to you online. Here's what you can do:

1. Tell a Grown-Up. Tell a parent, a teacher, or another grown-up you trust right away. They can help you.

2. Don't Reply. It can be tempting to reply, but it’s best to ignore the mean message or comment. Do not reply to the person who is being mean.

3. Block and Report. Most games and apps have a way to block or report someone. Blocking them means they can't talk to you anymore. Reporting tells the game's grown-ups that someone is being unkind.

Mean Things That Can Happen Online

• Name-Calling: When someone calls you mean names in a chat or a message.

• Griefing: This happens in games when someone tries to make the game less fun for you on purpose. For example, they might destroy something you built or keep getting in your way.

Remember, it's never okay for someone to be mean to you online, even if it's "just a game."

Be a Kind Online Friend!

Just like in real life, it's important to be kind online.

• Think Before You Type. Would what you are about to say make someone sad? If the answer is yes, don't say it.

• Use Kind Words. Use polite and friendly words when you talk to others.

• Help Others. If you see someone else being treated unkindly, tell a grown-up about it.
