Today, we are going to look at two different playscripts to familiarise ourselves with the layout, the features etc after our lesson yesterday. They are only short 'snippets'.
Reading Skill: SUMMARISING & PREDICTING
There looks a lot of tasks below but some are extremely short and won't take long
Remind yourself of the key features of a playscript. You could jot these down on a piece of paper OR discuss with somebody at home.
Read the playscript 'I SPY'.
Summarise what has happened in 'I SPY' using a summary hand OR a summary headline.
REMEMBER: a summary hand (what, where, when, who, why)
a summary headline (a snappy 'headline' using 10 words or less).
Read the playscript 'THE PLAYGROUND'.
Summarise what has happened in 'THE PLAYGROUND' using a summary hand OR a summary headline.
TRY TO USE THE OPPOSITE SUMMARY TECHNIQUE THAN WHAT YOU USED FOR ISPY SO YOU ARE PRACTISING BOTH.
Make a prediction of what you think may happen next in 'The Playground'.
Can you continue 'The Playground' playscript and tell us what happened next with the children, Miss Brown and the worm?
Make sure that they take the same format as the other lines of dialogue (no speech marks, character's name and then a colon) and include any stage directions.
