Monster Phonics Groups
ore grapheme
1. Download the PowerPoint. Use this to introduce the ore grapheme. Read the ore words and click to make the ghosts vanish. Play the Bore and Snore Game. Look at the connection between present and past tense – bore-bored, snore-snored, wear-wore, tear-tore.
2. Watch the ‘Flip Flops’ video. Ask the children to make the Ghost (put their finger in front of their lips – not touching) action each time they hear an ore word. Can they recall all of the ore words in the video?
3. Download the activity. This is the book cover for an ore book. Ask children to write as many ore words from memory. Write each word in large letters on sheets of paper. Bubble write the ghost letter e, to help remember that the ‘e’ is in these words but that it cannot be heard. Collate the paper from all the words and staple together with the book cover.
