Working together for success and happiness

Read/listen to Chapters 5-7 of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone during this week.

This week you will be thinking about how writers make narrative descriptive – part of HP’s appeal is the world it is set in. Read the part in Ch 5 where Harry first sees Diagon Alley. What makes this writing descriptive? Good writing builds description through interesting word choice, including building impactful noun phrases.

Revise noun phrases using Resources PPT.

Task:  Use knowledge of noun phrases to invent new HP sweet and chocolate names

Using the Delicious Noun Phrases sheet. Create new treats for the HP world. Start with a noun and build up using adjectives, adverbs, determiners, prepositional phrases. Remember to check that your noun phrase works by replacing it with a pronoun in a sentence.
